2014 and We’re Ready to Roll!

CNS Poster 2014

We’re back for our 5th Annual year and we’re ready to roll! We’re testing out the waters with some new food trucks: Streetzeria and Quack Dogs, and the bringing back the sweet tooth favorite Street Donuts.  Please give us your feedback on the food at the Celebrate North Seattle booth at the event!

North Seattle’s very own Buckets of Rain will be kicking off the musical tunes followed by a high-energy dance performance by Kagaka Lua . As usual, we’ll have great give-aways from local businesses all throughout the day, so be sure to stick around and enjoy. The kid’s carnival will also feature a couple of new games, the classic inflatables and prizes.

Make sure to also visit the community interactive section that was new to Celebrate North Seattle last year.  These are activities intentionally designed to help you get to know your neighbors!

Lastly, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the many sponsors of this year’s event.  Without their time & investment, this event would not be possible.   So when you show up at Celebrate North Seattle this year, make sure you stop by and talk to each one of them.  Ask them why they love North Seattle.  Without any further ado, we’d like to thank:

Getting the entrance ready for the crowds!

We upped our game in 2013 by adding food trucks!  In our first year joining the Seattle food truck revolution, we had really positive feedback from our three vendors: 314 Pie, Street Donuts, and Braizen Sandwich Company.

Headliner Buckets of Rain returned to a warm welcome from the Celebrate North Seattle crowd.  We were also joined by the chill grooves of warm-up act M James, (featuring Kaffeine & Soulchilde).  It was the first year we had gray skies (still no rain) for the event, but that didn’t stop over 1,400 people from coming out to enjoy the day!

2012

In 2012, it really began to look like we were gaining some traction.  It felt as though CNS was something people were looking forward to.  It was colorful and full of hope. Celebration mattered to our community. Maybe it was the sheer number of people that day (just shy of 1,000) or maybe it was all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds who set their differences aside to celebrate together–whatever it was, it was beautiful to watch. The organizers were just as inspired as anyone else, and constantly trying to facilitate helpful connections and build community relationships throughout the year.  As new sponsors started to join, curiosity was piqued and we anticipated more growth for the next year.

The crowd awaits the Drop Da Beat performance!

Year number two, we were back with a little more ground under our feet!  We helped launch the Shoes for Souls project as a joint effort of the North Seattle Rotary Club and the Salvation Army North. Over 300 pairs of brand new shoes were collected for North Seattle families in need.  The crowd was joyous and alive as over 600 North Seattle neighbors ventured out to play!

Inaugural Event, 2010

A block party experiment began on June 13, 2010.  With little up our sleeves but a belief in our North Seattle community, the unique assets we possess and the power of knowing our neighbors, we hit the streets, talking to local business owners and community groups to see if coming together to celebrate was even possible.   It was.  The first year  over 300 community members came to the Oak Tree Cinema parking lot to celebrate!  The day featured a kid’s carnival, live music, and door prizes, and the many local businesses who made the event possible.

We walked away from the 2010 event sold on the fact that we needed to do Celebrate North Seattle again.
